Main Street Properties

Located along Main Street in the historic core of downtown Abingdon, Virginia, these collective properties are an important piece of the historic fabric that gives the town its distinction and character. With influential neighbors like the Martha Washington Inn and Barter Theater, these once residential – turned – commercial lots required a careful hand to weave past and present while preserving their cultural significance.

Utilizing classic plant materials arranged in a fresh, new composition, the front yards were given individuality while maintaining an appropriate cohesion. Contemporary needs, such as expanded parking, outdoor gathering areas, ADA compliance and stormwater management, were all carefully detailed and crafted to seamlessly integrate within the surrounding context. The product is a series of historic landscapes that properly represent their past while supporting the needs of a modern society.
