Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail Interpretive Center

The Daniel Boone Wilderness Trail Interpretive Center, located in Duffield Virginia, is an educational experience that will tell the story and significance of the Wilderness Trail that ran through southwest Virginia, providing a gateway into America’s western frontier. The center itself is sited to take advantage of the views of Kane Gap, one of only three gaps in the southern Appalachian mountain range, where Daniel Boone and his team of 30 axmen crossed over into Kentucky. The landscape surrounding the interpretive center has been designed to be an extension of the architectural spaces and highlight the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains. Overlooks, amphitheaters, and open lawns will provide groups and individual visitors the opportunity to gather and reflect on the lessons learned about the history of the landscape and the brave men and women on the Wilderness Trail.
